It’s so exciting the new ABRSM Grade 8 piano syllabus is out! We have reached the top level and what a challenge it seems to be!
As first step, we encourage students to get to know the pieces from the exam piano book 2023 by listening to them. If you need help choosing your Grade 8 pieces, here is a free eBook that will guide you.

A total of 39 pieces make up the ABRSM Grade 8 piano exam pieces 2023 syllabus. 21 of those survive from the old 2021 & 2022 syllabus. On the other hand, the new Grade 8 piano exam book 2023 comprises 9 new pieces for students to choose from.
Candidates can choose to play any piece from the new 2023 & 2024 syllabus from 1 January 2023 until 31 December 2024.
Don’t worry if you run out of time as ABRSM will provide a year extension. This means, the overlap period will still allow students to perform their 2023 & 2024 pieces until 31 December 2025.
The 2021 & 2022 syllabus is planned to expire on 31 December 2022 for the new one to come into effect.
However, ABRSM concedes an extra year to students wishing to feature 2021 & 2022 pieces in their exam. This overlap period will last until 31 December 2023.
